Can you believe that January is already over? Before we know it another year will pass and be gone. The years seem to go by faster as we get older, don’t they?
Now is a great time to take a moment to reflect. Reflect on your life. Like Socrates said “An unexamined life is not worth living.” So let’s examine together...
I know that where you are right now, in this moment, you could be somewhere else. That you could be happier, that you could be healthier, you could have better relationships.
How do I know this?
Because it is human nature for us to want to grow and change, to want more. What happens, however, is that we get comfortable, in our routines, in our ways of doing things and soon life passes us by.
Is Life Passing you By?
Are you doing what you love? Are you fulfilling your life purpose? Are you fulfilling your dreams? Think for a moment of your biggest dream. The thing that maybe for years now, you have always wanted, even if you kept it to yourself. You see, some of us are “closet dreamers” we don’t tell people our biggest dreams in case they expect us to go and live those dreams!
For me, my big dream was living on a beach. I mean a real beach, where you wake up in the morning and go for a swim in the ocean, lay in the warm golden sun, watch the birds and listen to the waves caress the rocks. I also dreamed of providing counselling and coaching services to people while we walked outside in nature on the water.
The only problem was I am Canadian and lived in Toronto where half of the year there is snow on the ground and most beaches are not clean enough to swim in.
So, like most people, when I thought of a life of my dreams I then had "realistic thoughts" such as “well that would be nice but we’ll leave that life for vacations.” I can pretend I live on the beach once or twice a year.
We try to convince ourselves that we are happy with “just enough” because taking big risks, taking the plunge and doing whatever it takes to have a rich and fulfilling life can be scary. It is sometimes easier to continue to do what we have been doing... at least we know what to expect, and plus, life isn't that bad anyway. We’re fulfilled, right?
About 8 months ago, I decided to get out of the stands, to get on the court in my life and play full out. Get in the game and get myself the life that I deserve. First, my partner and I looked at prices for living on the beach in California, and came across our first BLOCK.
It’s expensive to live on the beach!!
And it can be difficult to move to the United States as an immigrant... all the red tape and paperwork and we may not even get accepted.
This is where most people get stopped. When they hit a wall, they convince themselves that it is “just too hard” and they go back to what they know. Pushing their dreams into the back of their mind, only for them to resurface a few years later.
As a Psychotherapist and Coach, I am committed to "walking my talk" and fulfilling ALL of my dreams. Thus, my partner and I looked into it and had to make a CHOICE. If we wanted to fulfill on our committment then we would have to move to Russia for a year or two so we would be able to afford the life of our dreams on the ocean. However, this meant leaving our friends and family, closing our businesses, renting out our home, storing our belongings and most of all letting go of everything that we knew and that made us feel comfortable.
To live in a country that is even colder then Canada! Where I do not speak the language and that is not as safe as Canada. It was going to be hard. But that didn’t matter.
Sometimes you have to work hard for what you want.
For an extraordinary life that I have always only dreamed of, I was willing to do whatever it took. We have now been in Moscow for 3 months and are in the process of getting our American visa to live in California on a beautiful beach.
Are YOU willing to Live a Life of your Dreams?
This term gets thrown around loosely. “Life of Your dreams” ...what does that mean exactly? Basically, it means what do you find yourself longing for? If you could have anything, what would it be?
For me, I literally would daydream of the ocean and daily rollerblades, bike rides and BBQs every day of the year.
If you find yourself daydreaming of an unbelievable life but feel stopped...feel stuck...feel that you can’t.
I am writing you to tell you that you can.
Did you know that 2% of people on this planet own 90% of the world’s wealth? Do you think these people have a Do Whatever It Takes mentality? Absolutely! But they were willing to be vulnerable, to trust, to feel the fear and do it anyway.
So many of us dream, yet so many of us do not live those dreams. Starting today, I am challenging you to take on a "Do What Ever It Takes" attitude to accomplish your dreams and goals.
If you do this, you will get there, guaranteed.
All My Love,
Nicole
